34 – Children’s Bible Hour

They asked for help…we answered the call. When the women who organize our Sunday night Children’s Bible Hour asked the congregation for help teaching the weekly class, the youth ministry saw this as another opportunity to help. We volunteered to teach for the month of December. Last Sunday night was our first night, and we had a blast teaching the kids about the gift of Jesus Christ. We look forward to assisting with CBH throughout December and on into the future.

33 – Fall Into Reading

A book drive is a HUGE undertaking! We had so many books donated that we were looking for a way to use the books we weren’t able to use for our other book drive. The answer literally walked right into my office. A representative from Tennessee Tech came by to ask if we would collect books for their “Fall Into Reading” campaign. He was happy when I informed him that we had a truck load ready to donate. The teens sorted, loaded, and delivered the books. We are happy that another organization was able to use the books that we have collected throughout the summer.

32 – Cookeville Christmas Parade

The third in the group of Miss Fabulous-related projects comes courtesy of the Cookeville Christmas Parade. Madison, who is a pageant winner herself, wanted to make sure the young people with special needs got to experience all the fun of being crowned a winner of a pageant. One of those experiences is to ride, and be cheered, in the Christmas parade.
Madison and a group of volunteers have worked extremely hard to build a float based on the theme, “The Angels of Christmas”. For Wednesday After School, we sent a group to assist. The Angel wings turned out fantastic! Now if the rain would go away, we will get to cheer these fantastic winners again.

31 – Stuffed Animal Drive

We were blessed to be able to accomplish a few tasks off of the back of the Miss Fabulous Pageant. One of them was the Putnam County Sheriff Departments’ Stuffed Animal Drive. The Sheriff was collecting stuffed animals to give to children who are taken out of meth homes. When meth is discovered in a home, the majority of the home and the items in it have to be destroyed. They are all contaminated. So the sheriff (who is a member at Jefferson as well) collects stuffed animals every year to give to these children. It’s a great work.

Madison Hill had the idea to have those who were a part of the pageant bring stuffed animals for this drive. It was a great idea!

30 – Miss Fabulous Pageant

A simple blog post can in no way describe how fantastic this project was. Madison Hill, a member of our group, came up with the idea to host a beauty pageant for young ladies (and young men who served as escorts) with special needs. Over the span of 8 weeks, God blessed Madi with an amazing day. Almost 30 ladies participated in the event and 9 young men served as escorts. Every person that participated was crowned “Miss Fabulous” (everyone got a crown and a sash!). There were no losers on this day. Family and friends filled the audience and cried tears of joy watching their sons and daughters walk across the stage with joy.
Our local newspaper, the Herald-Citizen, came to cover the event. News 2 from Nashville filmed a feature about it. Even the GO! Camp crew from Freed Hardeman drove in to be a part of an incredible day.
I have been blessed to be a part of some amazing days, and this one certainly ranks up with the best. I appreciate Madison for her dreams, her drive, and her willingness to do whatever it took to make sure everyone saw just how beautiful every participant was. It was an awesome day! I can’t wait for the 2nd annual “Miss Fabulous” Pageant!

29 – College Ministry Meal

Sean Kelly is the deacon over the College Ministry here at Jefferson, and he and his wife Paula came up with the idea of our Youth Ministry hosting the College Ministry for dinner. Alot of our college students are dorm residents that spend the majority of their time eating in the cafeteria at Tennessee Tech. It was an honor to help and host them for a Wednesday Night Meal. A number of our Youth Ministry assisted Mrs. Paula in the kitchen to prepare a great meal. Thanks to all those who came out, and to all who helped with the dinner.

28 – Cookeville Regional Medical Center

I always say it…my favorite 52n52 projects are the ones I didn’t organize. Amanda Cunningham (A 2011 GO! Camper) gets every bit of the credit for this one. For her birthday this year, she invited her friends over for a party, but asked them not to bring gifts. Instead, they all pooled the “Amanda’s Gift Cash” together and went shopping. They bought toys and hand delivered them to kids in the hospital at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She didn’t even tell me about it. One of her friends let me know about how awesome it was. I’m proud of her and her servant’s heart.
